Pianist Yeol Eum Son will join the Flanders Symphony Orchestra and conductor Adrien Perruchon on their 18 – 30 January tour of Belgium. The award-winning artist will perform Liszt’s Piano Concerto No. 1. Ms Son has earned praise for her interpretations of the composer’s work. The Washington Post writes of a recent performance of “Mephisto Waltz No. 1”, that, “Her showmanship came to the fore…played with booming power and devilish ferocity in the cackling multi-trills and gossamer right-hand runs.”
In addition to this tour, Son’s notable concerti highlights this year include debuts and return visits with the Budapest Festival Orchestra and Bergen Philharmonic under Dmitrij Kitajenko; Residentie and Aurora orchestra under Nicholas Collon; Liverpool Philharmonic under Andrew Manze; Bournemouth Symphony under Case Scaglione; Helsinki Philharmonic under Pablo González; Iceland Symphony Orchestra under Yan Pascal Tortelier; WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne at the RadiRo Festival in Bucharest under Cristian Măcelaru; West Australian Symphony Orchestra and New Zealand Symphony Orchestra under Vasily Petrenko.
Notable recital and chamber music colaborations this year include appearances at KKLSaal, Bern’s Paul Klee Centre, Nieuwe Kerk in the Hague, Philharmonie Cologne, Porto’s Casa da Música, Belgrade’s Kolarac Concert Hall, Moscow’s House of Music, East Neuk Festival in Scotland and at the Tallin Piano Festival.
