Following her recent Canadian debut with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, on 12-13 June 2024, under the baton of Portuguese conductor Joana Carneiro, Yeol Eum Son makes her highly anticipated debut in Canadian capital with the National Arts Centre Orchestra performing Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 2. A breathtaking work of raw emotion that moves between tender reflection and thunderous intensity, Prokofiev’s concerto is the perfect vehicle for Yeol Eum, who brings “power and passion, fireworks and drama aplenty” (Limelight) to every performance. Joana Carneiro returns for the first time to NACO after leading volcanic performances of Igor Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring back in 2017. On this occasion she conducts music from the composer’s fairy-tale ballet The Firebird and opens the program, with Ciprés by the Portuguese composer Andreia Pinto Correia – a musical depiction of towering trees and calm water inspired by a Federico García Lorca poem. More information and tickets are available here.
Yeol Eum’s North American presence continues to flourish, with upcoming debuts in the 2024/25 season with the St. Louis, Colorado, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, among others. This follows recent debuts with the Atlanta, Pacific and San Diego Symphony, and St. Paul Chamber Orchestra.
