Pianist Yeol Eum Son makes her Stockholm debut with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra on 24 and 25 April. She will perform Lutosławski’s Variations on a Theme by Paganini and Strauss’s Burleske. The concert, led by Yeol Eum’s frequent collaborator and Principal Guest Conductor Maxim Emelyanychev, is the sixth part of Esa-Pekka Salonen’s residency with the orchestra and features his symphonic poem, Nyx, and Robert Schumann’s Symphony No. 3.
Yeol Eum’s previous collaborations in Nordic countries include collaborations with, among others, the Oslo Philharmonic, Finnish Radio, Helsinki Philharmonic and Danish Radio. She recently returned to the Barbican in London with the BBC Symphony Orchestra conducted by Sakari Oramo, followed by a successful five cities tour of Korea with the orchestra interpreting Béla Bartók’s Piano Concerto No.3, Finzi’s Eclogue for Piano and Strings and Britten’s Piano Concerto. This season, shortly upcoming are debuts and repeat collaborations with the Israel Philharmonic, São Paulo State Symphony, and Sydney Symphony. This summer Yeol Eum makes her Sintra Festival debut in Portugal where she will feature in a “duel” joint recital with pianist Frank Dupree and returns to the Royal Albert Hall for her second appearance at the BBC Proms together with the BBC Symphony and conductor James Gaffigan.
Poetic elegance, an innate feeling for expressive nuance and the power to project bold, dramatic contrasts are among the arresting attributes of Yeol Eum Son’s pianism. She is known for her refined artistry and breathtaking technical control as well as her strikingly wide-ranging repertoire, from Bach and Mozart to Ligeti and Kapustin. In high demand around the world as recitalist, concerto soloist and chamber musician, she continues to deepen her artistry through frequent collaborations with many of today’s leading conductors, including Antonio Pappano, Roberto González-Monjas, Ryan Bancroft, Edward Gardner, Jaime Martin, Andrew Manze, Jun Märkl, Alexander Shelley, Lio Kuokman, Pietari Inkinen, Joana Carniero, Jonathon Heyward, and Anja Bihlmaier among others.
